What will you be doing?
ROLE DESCRIPTION Overseen by the chair and supported by the administrator and the rest of our trustees, you will review and agree on grants with other trustees in an ongoing role. Most decision-making will take place online via email, and we anticipate you will be called upon to review a bundle of applications every two months - not more than a few hours of reading and decision-making. Two trustees review a caseload individually, with the second having the final say. Any questions can be put to the rest of the trustees and our administrator. You will be asked to attend two of our annual meetings, usually in London, for which travel expenses will be recompensed. These take place in early Summer and early Winter and lunch is provided. This role would suit anyone with some knowledge or experience of UK health and social care provision, small grant giving, voluntary sector organisations (particularly those that deal with destitution, domestic violence, ill health and homelessness). We are looking for open minded people with respect and empathy for our beneficiaries. We have some emphasis on supporting organisations in our founders' home territory in Salford and Eccles, so are keen to welcome candidates that can bring knowledge of region centred approaches (even if you're not from Salford!). SUPPORT AND MANAGEMENT You will be given an induction by the chair and the administrator and will be supported by them throughout your time with us. If you need any adaptations provided to enable you to help us in our work, we will do everything we can. We are flexible and understand that, as a volunteer, other commitments may prevent you from attending our in person meetings, and will provide phone in or video link options where possible.

What difference will you make?
OPPORTUNITY PROFILE The Foundation has been making a difference for people experiencing ill health and hardship for over 60 years. By joining our board of trustees, you will be part of a committed group of people with a reputation for efficiently getting desperately needed funds to people all over the UK. As a trustee responsible for overseeing the financial health of the charity, you will have a hand in decisions on our strategy and viability. Small charities like ours are a great opportunity for trustees looking to widen their skill set and get involved with the projects and organisations we fund. We support trustees in visiting and reporting back from projects all over the country, as well as researching new areas for us to participate. We also encourage any new research or knowledge you can bring on changes in, for example, housing and benefits policy, and how it will affect the people we help. We hope you'll enjoy getting to know our small and friendly group of trustees and working with us to become an even more effective solution for people in need.
