What will you be doing?
At Walsall Sea Cadet Unit, we are seeking new Trustees. In particular, we aim to fill the key role of Fundraising Trustee. If you would like the opportunity to apply your experience in a meaningful volunteer role to launch young people for life whilst also enhancing your skills, boosting your self-esteem and meeting new people, then you are looking in the right place. The Sea Cadets is the UK’s leading maritime charity and provides a head start in life for young people through nautical adventure and fun. Our volunteers work, both directly with young people and behind the scenes, to help make a positive difference to teenagers who are often struggling in today’s world and their communities. Walsall Sea Cadet Unit, bases in Walsall WS1 2JS is currently looking for enthusiastic and dedicated members to join its Unit Management Team (UMT). As a long-established Sea Cadet Unit, we provided life-changing opportunities for many young people and currently have approx. 32 cadets from all over Walsall and surrounding areas. All Sea Cadet Units are run by volunteers. The UMT consists of volunteers that act as the unit’s trustees and comprise a Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer as a minimum. The UMT is responsible for the manning, funding, safeguarding and health and safety of the unit and ensuring that operational and strategic aims are met. Previous experience as a fundraiser would be beneficial within in charity or a similar role. The tasks of a Fundraising Trustee include but are not restricted to the following:
Liaise with the UMT and support them in their fundraising Lead on the different types of fundraising, such as trust and foundation applications (Support offered Nationally) Write and send letters of appeal. Identify potential funders for projects Engage with local/regional/national businesses and organisations for fundraising opportunities Work with the National Fundraising Manager to seek further opportunities for your unit To attend UMT meetings on a weekday evening (this is the only specific time commitment we ask as most of the work can be done on a casual basis from home).

What are we looking for? About you: Previous experience in fundraising or a similar role would be beneficial. You will be 18 or over You will be reliable and committed to volunteering You should have good numeracy, statistical and research skills You will be enthusiastic and keen to learn new things You will be a good communicator You will be competent using IT Systems You will be able to work as part of a team You will be honest and trustworthy You will be a role model to young people Although having the right attitude and a passion for improving the lives of young people are the most important things!
