What will you be doing?

We have plans drawn up by an architect for the refurbishment of our Centre. We are half way through the fund raising and looking to start applying to building control for the design. We are therefore looking for a Structural engineer who can design the support for the area of load bearing wall and help us with the submission to Building control.

What are we looking for?

Highly organised, Structural engineer with experience or similar projects. Able to work remotely reliably and to deadlines.

What difference will you make?

ACW operate out of the Spencer Denney Centre (SDC), a community hall built in the 1960’s originally used as a workshop for older people.  The Centre in Park Corner became the home of ACW in 1998.  SDC is also used by other community groups that have an interest in the elderly and/or mental health. We need to update SDC and bring it into the 21st Century by replacing/remodelling the toilets. While the building is accessible for wheelchairs the toilet area is not suitable for most wheels chairs, as it is old, worn, poorly lit and unheated. This work will:-

Change the layout of the area for better wheelchair access increase the number of disabled toilets from 2 to 3 Replace:

the old now redundant and leaking urinal sanitary ware with easier clean modern units old worn and damaged ceiling tiles, and broken lights inefficient water heaters and hand dryers, increasing energy efficiency

Bring:

improved lighting & heating/ reduce costs SDC up to standard with the building code for disability accessibility give better access to & increase the number of toilets enable us to have clients with increased mobility issues attend improve the feel/look/navigation of the building

The attached document shows the plans for the layout with the the old walls with dashed lines. Please note that the central wall across the building is load bearing. We are currently looking at completing all the changes on the plans over the next 3-5 years however are looking to get the toilet work done early next year.
