What will you be doing?

Trustees ensure their charity has a clear strategy and that all decisions put the needs of the service users first. They safeguard the charity’s assets – both physical assets, including property, and intangible ones, such as its reputation. They make sure these are used well and that the charity is run sustainably. They hold the leadership team to account and provide support and encouragement to them and the staff. Trustees are jointly responsible for all their decisions and work together to ensure the charity delivers it’s aims. There is no fixed time requirement, as each trustee has different amounts of time they are able to offer to trusteeship. You must be able to attend four Board meetings per year - ideally at our Bargoed offices but remote attendance can be supported. You will need to spend some time reading the Board papers ahead of the meetings and we hope that you will be able to get involved in some of our projects.

What are we looking for?

Skills and qualities needed:

Willingness and ability to understand and accept their responsibilities and liabilities as trustees and to act in the best interests of the organisation. Ability to think creatively and strategically, exercise good, independent judgement and work effectively as a board member. Effective communication skills and willingness to participate actively in discussion. Commitment to Nolan’s seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.

We will consider applications from anyone with an interest in our work. We are particularly interested in hearing from people with experience in finance; fundraising and/or governance. You don’t need to have sat on a Board before - you’ll be given training and support.

What difference will you make?

It’s a great opportunity to donate your time, share your skills and passion and help a cause you care about. You’ll be contributing to your community, will meet some interesting new people and at the same time you will likely learn some new things and have some fun along the way.
