What will you be doing?

Key responsibilities: 

Keep track of regular or frequent donors and ensure they are thanked when they make a noteworthy donation. This includes both individuals and organisations (currently about 10-20 donors). Promote a small number of events each year to provide sponsorship opportunities for volunteers, friends, and supporters, using our platforms Enthuse and Just Giving.  Examples include: Samarathon and individual sponsorship at sporting or other events (running, parachute jumps, birthday bashes etc). Organise the annual St Albans street collection, in conjunction with the Treasurer and other volunteers. Organise participation in other collection events such as the Matthew Lovell Memorial Match. Work with the Publicity Lead to promote donations from local communities (from organisations and individuals) Keep up to date with Samaritans Central Charity fund raising initiatives and plans and, where appropriate, promote participation to raise funds for the Branch. Promote (via appropriate channels) the idea of leaving money to SW Herts Samaritans. Help with developing new fund raising initiatives (including potentially a Friends of SW Herts community), collecting gift aid from new donors, and building a small team of helpers amongst Branch volunteers for occasional help with events and collections etc. 

What are we looking for?

Professional experience in a fundraising, income management, marketing or customer relationship role is important although other professional experience could be applicable. Organisational skills and enthusiasm are key requirements. The following skills and personal qualities are essential requirements:

Organised with an attention to detail Flexible, collaborative and willing to learn Understanding of why supporters might engage with the branch Ability to engage with people at different levels within an organisation  Enthusiasm and commitment to the Samaritans mission, vision and values Commitment to maintaining confidentiality

By using your skills and experience to help develop a sustainable income stream, you will help to enable us to grow our listening service provision, not only by phone, email and webchat but also out in the community of South West Herts.  A key element of the role will be to develop good reasons why, in a climate of increasing challenges to charity funding, potential supporters should engage with us on a regular basis.
