What will you be doing?

  As a treasurer trustee of a homeless charity, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the organization's financial affairs and ensuring its financial stability and accountability. Your responsibilities will involve managing the charity's funds, budgets, and financial records, as well as providing strategic financial guidance to support the charity's mission of helping homeless individuals and communities. Here's an overview of the key roles and responsibilities: ​​Overseeing, approving and presenting budgets, accounts and financial statements

Being assured that the financial resources of the organisation meet its present and future needs Ensuring that the charity has an appropriate reserves policy Preparing and presenting financial reports to the board Ensuring that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place Liaising with any paid staff and volunteers about financial matters Advising on the financial implications of the organisation’s strategic plans Ensuring that the accounts are prepared and disclosed in the form required by funders and the relevant statutory bodies, for example the Charity Commission and/or the Registrar of Companies Keeping the board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities Contributing to the fundraising strategy of the organisation Ensuring that the organisation applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its charitable objects (ie the charity must not spend money on activities that are not included in its own objects, however worthwhile or charitable those activities are) for the benefit of the public Ensuring that the organisation defines its goals and evaluates performance against agreed targets Ensuring the effective and efficient administration of the organisation, including having appropriate policies and procedures in place Ensuring the financial stability of the organisation Protecting and managing the property of the charity and ensuring the proper investment of the charity’s funds.

What difference will you make?

We one of the few charities providing an all day cafe in Reading, and are launching Reading's first and only Warm Bank. We have appointed two new members of staff which is a reflection of how the charity continues to grow year on year. We are seeking a Treasurer trustee to support the Chair and the Board to lead us into our next period of growth. Supported by a team of dedicated members of staff, trustees with a huge variety of experience and committed and enthusiastic volunteers, this person will be responsible for financial management and governance. The Treasurer will be a key part of New Beginning Reading as it continues to support families and individuals facing the immediate tough winter ahead, as well as longer term hardship and homelessness.
