Volunteer Independent Hospital Charity seeks Trustee with Fundraising Experience

What will you be doing?

The Friends of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital  is a voluntary organisation and registered charity based in south west London which supports the work of the hospital for the benefit of patients, their families and staff. Our services include the Friends Shop, Friends Library, trolley services to the wards, and a Grants Scheme for hospital departments to purchase medical equipment and other items. Like many small charities we have suffered on several fronts during the Covid pandemic, and we are keen to explore new opportunities for fundraising, as well as increasing our membership and strengthening our financial oversight. We are currently looking to recruit one or more new Trustees with experience in charity fundraising and event organisation to lead on this aspect of our work at Board level. Previous experience in the health sector is also desirable, as is knowledge of the area the hospital serves.

What are we looking for?

Prior experience of the charitable or health sectors; Experience of charity fundraising and event organising; Contacts in the fundraising, business, or financial worlds, or in the local community; Commitment to the charity and its aims; Willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to the role; Strategic vision; Good, independent judgement;  Ability to think creatively;  Willingness to speak your mind;  Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship;  Ability to work effectively as a member of the team;  Adherence to Nolan's seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.

What difference will you make?

You will play a key role in shaping the fundraising work of a small but vital charity at Board level. We have a 30-year history of supporting the patients and staff of our wonderful hospital, and with a revitalised Board of Trustees and a strengthened fundraising function, we hope to continue this for many years to come.
