What will you be doing?

As a small women's charity committed to empowering women to become agents of their own change and improve their health and wellbeing, the Chair will have the opportunity to lead the charity in making a significant impact on the lives of those we support. The Chair must be passionate about championing the needs and experiences of women, particularly those who experience real or perceived barriers to accessing statutory services. As an independent women charity we support women from all walks of life and are committed to providing a varied and responsive package of activities. The Chair will work alongside the Director on the development of WAND's next strategic plan, which centres women, their voices and needs at the heart of all we do, develop key partnerships and secure funding. The Chair role is vital to WAND and we are excited about welcoming a new member of our team to lead us into the future. 

What are we looking for?

The Chair of the Board of Trustees role requires a blend of experience, skills and personal qualities that may come from personal, work or volunteering experience. We are committed to diversifying the make-up of the Board and understand that the Chair may not fully meet all points of the person specification, but may bring alternative, novel or new experiences and skills that are valuable to the organisation.

Organisational skills.  Lead through change whilst mitigating unnecessary risk.  Analytical skills, judgement and constructive challenge. Proficiently in managing organisation/programme budgets. Understand not-for-profit/charity sector funding sources and management.   Clear, impactful and adaptible communication skills. The ability to persuade and influence a range of stakeholders.  Problem-solving skills with the ability to think creatively when faced with challenge.   Understand common issues faced by women who may require support from WHISC. Knowledge of how the health and care system is structured and some of the key organisations and bodies. An understanding of charity governance and Charity Commission guidance.   An understanding of the current opportunities and challenges faced by small to medium charities.   An understanding of not-for-profit/charity sector funding sources and management.   Experience of being in a leadership role.  Experience of leading others through change.   Experience of developing strategy.   Experience of chairing meetings.   Experience of effectively managing risk.  Experience of budget or other financial management.
