What will you be doing?

At British Wireless for the Blind Fund, we know that access to audio can be life-changing for someone living with sight loss. We give listening devices for free and for life to people living with sight loss, and our easy-to-use apps and skills unlock a world of audio content on the internet for people who might otherwise struggle to access it. Sight loss shouldn’t close the door to the experiences most people take for granted. But sadly, lots of the people we support tell us they still face loneliness and social exclusion. Our radios and apps provide comfort and companionship, and keep people connected with their communities, their passions, and the wider world. We might be a small team, but we are truly a national charity. Over the last year, we supported people living with sight loss, right across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. We gave out 2,500 free radios and over 2,100 people downloaded our apps. This means we now bring comfort and companionship to more than 30,000 homes across the UK. We’re a team of twelve staff, based in our head office in Kent and home-based across the UK. Together with our volunteers, we deliver radios to those who need them most. Our apps are built entirely in-house by our small team of developers who work closely with people living with sight loss to make sure what we create works for them. British Wireless for the Blind Fund was founded in 1928 by Sir Ernest Beachcroft Beckwith Towse, a veteran of the Boer War who lost his sight in the conflict. After working with the wounded in hospitals in France during World War II, he turned his energies to the service of people living with sight loss. We are a small charity with big ambitions. By working with our supporters, partners, and people living with sight loss, we are determined to do more to unlock a world of audio content. We are hoping to recruit several volunteers who can attend exhibitions, conferences, and talks on our behalf. The goal is to demonstrate our equipment to people living with sight loss, their families, and other organisations to reach more people who need us. This is a volunteer-led opportunity (might suit a retired couple as we throw in overnight stays, meals, etc) and you will be supported by BWBF's dedicated team. For helping with talks, we need an experienced public speaker.  For exhibitions and conferences, we need people who can communicate clearly and patiently with people from all walks of life.

What are we looking for?

Ideally, someone with lots of public speaking experience for helping with talks. For events and conferences, we understand there is a skill requirement here and we would love to hear from people who have done this for a living before.
