What will you be doing?
We need volunteers who love getting stuck into the world of social media. Chaffinch is currently building a team with passion for social media. We have underutilised accounts with Facebook, X, LinkedIn and Instagram but we now have a strategy document and effective content pillars etc. We are looking for one or two people who can engage with our desired audience and produce and manage content that will create a passionate response in our supporters. This role could involve daily interaction with our supporters and wider audience or, if other volunteers are available, could involve creating content to be posted and managed by others. We would hope that our perfect volunteers will work well within a team and with the charity's CEO, to whom they will report, and not be afraid to speak up and join in with decision-making. We are looking for someone who can work largely independently although the team will be on hand. We are a small and friendly charity expecting effort rather than perfection!
What are we looking for?
Our ideal volunteer will have experience with either Facebook or Instagram, as appropriate, and have an awareness of where people are currently engaging with charities as well as the type of content that will capture the attention of an audience. The volunteer will need to be able to adhere to strict ethical guidelines and understand the reasons behind their implementation. It is vital that the volunteer portray the charity and its beneficiaries in a way that supports the overall aims and mission of Chaffinch. Therefore, a strong understanding of the charity's purpose is essential. An interest in current international affairs and issues of international development would be helpful. Experience in graphic design, photo editing etc. could be helpful in producing content although support with this may be available from other volunteers. In this case, an ability to work well within a small team or a pairing would be essential. More than anything else, our ideal volunteer will have a passion for the work of Chaffinch with the children of Kibera. Chaffinch was built on a desire to make a difference rather than pre-existing skillsets, so we actively welcome volunteers who are excited by Chaffinch's mission to create sustainability for local projects and who are committed to their own personal development within the role. We love to watch our volunteers grow even if that means growing beyond Chaffinch. We would hope that a volunteer in this role would gain just as much as they give.
What difference will you make?
Chaffinch is still a relatively young charity (9 years) with a modest annual turnover. Many will overlook us as being insignificant amongst the larger charities. However, Chaffinch has scope to make a very real difference to the children of Kibera but we are currently unable to achieve our potential due to a lack of experience and knowledge in some important fields. Finding the right volunteers for this role could mean the difference between a charity that helps a few young people and a charity that generates real opportunity and hope for children to build successful lives for themselves and future generations.
