What will you be doing?

The duties of a trustee are:

To ensure that the organisation complies with its governing document, organisation law, and any other relevant legislation or regulations. to ensure that the organisation pursues its objectives as defined in its governing document. To ensure the organisation applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objectives, i.e. the organisation must not spend money on activities which are not included in its own objectives, no matter how worthwhile or charitable those activities are. To contribute actively to the board of trustees' role in giving firm strategic direction to the organisation, setting overall policy, defining goals, setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets.

What are we looking for?

Trustee person specification: Each trustee must have:

Integrity. An understanding of the needs of the client group served by SAGE Counselling. A commitment to the organisation and its objectives. An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship. A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to their duties as a trustee. Strategic vision. Good, independent judgement. An ability to think creatively. A willingness to speak their mind. An ability to work effectively as a member of a team.

Knowledge or experience in one or more of the following areas – legal matters, finance, funding, publicity, Human Resources, computers and information technology, education and learning. Desirable:

Experience of governance. Experience of working with volunteers.

We need a trustee with vision and enthusiasm to join our group of trustees to help us move forward into the future. Trustees have responsibility to ensure we are doing everything we can to improve our service for the clients, counsellors, board members and for the organisation as a whole. A part of the trustee role also means ensuring we are operate ethically, legally and in accordance with our governing policy. Currently we are:

Embracing technology to improve efficiency and confidentiality with google workspace  Looking for organisational improvements to ensure efficient use of resources both financial and personnel. Discovering ways to be transparent, particularly financially by sharing information more freely. Completing a business plan and ensure it is up to date on a quarterly basis. Ensuring there is clear succession, in the way of flow charts, of key workers to enable a new officer to take over.
