What will you be doing?
Elmbridge Mencap has a board of Trustees who have overall legal responsibility for the charity. Trustees form the Executive Committee who meet once a month (usually Mondays) to conduct the business of the charity – this will include ensuring that the charity remains within the law in conducting its business, that money is spent wisely and for the benefit of the charity and making decisions in accordance with the charity’s aims and objectives. The past few years have been challenging and we have now recently opened a new service which requires careful planning and financial budgetting to ensure its continued viability. The Treasurer will play a key role in this. Our Treasurer will be leaving the board of Trustees at this year's AGM and so we are looking for a trustee with an financial background, who could use their skill and experience to ensure proper financial management of the Charity. This position would suit someone recently retired or working part time.
What are we looking for?
Applicants with an accountancy or book keeping qualification preferred as this position requires good knowledge of accounting procedures. People and communication skills important. Although previous experience within the area of learning or other disability is not a prerequisite, Trustees should show an understanding and commitment to the aims and objectives of our charity and to the needs and aspirations of those within the learning disability community.
What difference will you make?
The role of Treasurer is very important to us - not only do we need someone to keep us on track financially and keep us viable, but even more significantly, we are looking for someone to help us formulate our vision for the future so we may continue to support those in the local area most need of help.
