What will you be doing?
As our Treasurer and Trustee your role will be to ensure our finance function is well managed and to work with other Trustees to monitor our financial position and ensure we operate within our means and objectives. You will:
support our Finance Manager; in conjunction with our Finance Manager and Chief Executive oversee the preparation of the quarterly management accounts; in conjunction with the Chair and Chief Executive prepare the draft budget for the ensuing year for Board approval; explain to, guide and advise the Board on, the management accounts, budget and the surplus and reserves policy; prepare and/or read papers for Board meetings and attend meetings of the Board and its two annual Away Days; in conjunction with the Finance Manager and Chief Execurive and in compliance with the Charities SORP, prepare the annual accounts, submit the accounts for Independent Examination, present the accounts to the Board for approval and to the staff and volunteers at each AGM and file the accounts with regulators; keep the Board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities; establish, as necessary, and monitor internal procedures; understand and monitor changes in external accounting policies and procedures; establish, as necessary, in conjunction with the Finance Manager and Chief Executive, internal financial controls and monitor them to provide assurance to the Board; Work with other Trustees to:
set policy and strategy direction, set targets and evaluate our performance; review our performance and how effectively we operate, including making any recommendations for improvement.
What are we looking for?
As our Treasurer and a member of our Trustee Board you will need to:
understand the duties and responsibilities of directors and trustees; have a relevant accounting qualification ideally, or relevant accountancy experience; have demonstrable knowledge of financial systems and financial control; have some knowledge or experience of the principles of charity finances; have current and appropriate computer skills; be able to summarise and explain financial reports to Trustees at meetings; be willing to learn about, and follow, the Citizens Advice aims, principles and policies; observe confidentiality and GDPR/data protection procedures.
