Volunteer Trustee

What will you be doing?

Trustee with financial skills or some experience needed for a small, educational and heritage charity based in Newhaven, Edinburgh. All HEC trustees are volunteers. The charity's only income comes from the small fee charged for visits. Outgoings are simple; mainly insurance, rent and repairs. Easy bookkeeping and reporting annually to OSCR. Experience in submitting funding applications or the ability to apply for extra funding would be invaluable but is not imperative. We're a small but committed team. What are we looking for?

Basic bookkeeping or accounting knowledge would be ideal but is not strictly necessary as our income is routine and outgoings are usually regular and small. As we're a very small team, the ability to work with such a small, friendly team is a must. Experience with fund-raising would be ideal but is not essential. As we come well under the OSCR threshold for external auditors, we must use an independent examiner each year to check the books before submitting the accounts.

What difference will you make?

Transactions are usually straightforward, so the treasurer is a routine but much needed addition to our small but dedicated team. We have just competed a move to much more suitable premises and have been operating again since the end of January 2023.  We had no income during our Covid shutdown and the move and renovation of our new home was expensive. We are slowly building back our small reserves now that we are operating again.The treasurer will lend invaluable support at this crucial time and going forward as we meet new challenges arising from our move.
