Role Summary

  • Ensure tax compliance and efficiency across the Low Carbon Group.
  • Manage tax planning for transactions and oversee tax return preparation.
  • Collaborate with investment and finance teams to support tax aspects of business activities.
  • Maintain tax risk register and stay updated on tax developments.
  • Coordinate with tax advisors and manage relationships with tax authorities.

Role Requirements

  • Approachable with excellent communication skills and relationship-building ability.
  • Proactive, organized, detail-oriented, and adept at problem-solving.
  • Relevant tax and/or accounting qualification with experience in mixed tax compliance and transactional work.
  • Background in renewable energy or infrastructure investments and fund management is beneficial.

Role Description

This position has come about for maternity cover. The purpose of this position is to drive tax compliance, planning and efficiency for the Low Carbon Group.  The Senior Tax Manager will take ownership for Low Carbon’s tax planning for all transactions, both buy-side and sell-side, as well as accounting for income taxes and overseeing preparation of tax returns. This role encompasses the entire Low Carbon Group including Head Office, operational companies, development SPV’s, holding companies and the fund. It involves an interesting mix of compliance and transactional work, partnering with the investment teams, contributing to forecasting and budgeting and working closely with the Finance team.

The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator able to influence at a senior level with strong tax and financial acumen. This role sits with the Corporate Finance team and will report to the Finance Director.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversight of all corporation tax, VAT and other relevant tax returns, prepared by the Tax Manager/ third party service providers
  • Continuing the implementation of the group’s transfer pricing policy
  • Provide support to the Investment team in respect of tax aspects of new joint ventures, acquisitions, disposals and restructurings, of which there are multiple
  • Maintaining the tax risk register and keeping up to date with relevant tax technical developments and their applicability to the group
  • Preparation of responses to HMRC or other tax authority queries regarding tax issues
  • Assist the fund with any fund related tax queries, compliance and acquisitions
  • Input into forecasting and budgeting processes for cash management
  • Manage day to day relationship with Group tax advisors and tax compliance service providers

Skills & Experience

  • Tax and/or accounting qualification or equivalent with proven experience of mixed tax compliance and transactional experience likely gained in-house or in an accounting/consulting firm
  • Considerable experience in a tax advisory company and/or in house in a similar role
  • Experience understanding complex structures
  • Renewable energy experience and/or infrastructure investments would be valuable
  • Experience of working with fund management would also be useful
