CAD Technician

Department: Development + Construction

Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time

Location: UK - London

Description

A bit about Field

Field is an international builder, owner, operator, of renewable infrastructure. Our Founder and CEO is a successful entrepreneur who previously co-founded a green energy supplier. We have robust pipelines of BESS projects across the UK, Italy, Spain, and Germany - and strong financial backing. Our most recent fundraise was a £200 million investment from DIF Capital Partners. This will support our mission to grow internationally, and ultimately to build and develop a robust global BESS portfolio.

We are an eclectic team with varied backgrounds. Our team has experience scaling billion dollar tech start-ups and building energy companies, as well as deep specialisms in the energy markets. You will learn from and work with a bunch of fun, curious, and entrepreneurial people who really want to make an impact. Together, we will show that batteries are a totally viable part of our energy infrastructure - now, not in some distant future. We have ambitious plans to become the defining new clean energy player in Europe over the next few years, gradually expanding beyond batteries into new asset types.

Overview

The Design Engineer role is critical to support the development of Field’s pipeline of battery energy storage system (BESS) projects across the UK and Europe. In this role you will report to the Design Manager to support the design process across our portfolio of projects, from initial concept design through to construction.

This role combines CAD and engineering elements, both of which are critical to our designs. We’re looking for candidates with experience in either discipline and a strong desire to learn. To be successful in the role you will need to draw on your CAD skills and engineering knowledge to produce full suites of project plans including concept designs, and land, combined utilities and planning application plans.

  • For anyone with a CAD background, you will apply your knowledge to create plans and to block and template creation, whilst also learning about civil and electrical design through on-the-job mentoring.
  • For anyone with an engineering background, this can be civil or electrical. You will apply your knowledge to directly influence our site designs. You will also learn through on-the-job mentoring to develop a broad engineering knowledge across both civil and electrical engineering. You will need a good knowledge of CAD which can be furthered through specific mentoring and training.

Key Responsibilities

This is a broad and varied role with the opportunity to have massive impact. Key responsibilities include:

In-depth knowledge of AutoCAD and application of engineering knowledge to produce 2D technical and/or electrical drawings and plans including:

  • Initial concept designs;
  • Single-line diagrams;
  • Planning application drawings;
  • Land plans;
  • Pre-construction information e.g. combined utilities plans; and
  • Block and template creation.
Production of 3D site design models (e.g. using Autodesk Revit) to support the design and planning processes.

Review of tender documents and external documents and data sheets to continually develop our in house design knowledge and processes. This will include technical information, construction methods and safety requirements.

Support of the implementation of Field’s internal data management system and continued process compliance.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

A bit about you

  • You’re enthusiastic, curious and knowledgeable about the energy storage industry, with a particular passion to learn about the technical aspects of BESS.
  • You’ve got an eye for detail. Accuracy in our designs is critical; you’ll work to a high standard and collaborate with others to ensure constructable designs.
  • You’re very organised - you’ll be spinning a few plates at once, so you’ll need to have tried and tested methods for keeping on top of a varied workload at your fingertips.
  • You’re an open, clear communicator who enjoys working collaboratively - there are no ‘lone wolves’ at Field, we’re all in this together.
  • You like variety - this isn’t an easy role, so you’ll need to be someone who thrives on challenge, likes to be always learning and isn’t afraid of a broad role remit
Essential Skills
You’ll either come from an engineering background or have at least 1 year’s working experience of AutoCAD. The role is based in our head office in London (Shoreditch) where you’ll need to be in person three days a week.

For engineers:

  • Minimum 2:1 in an engineering related undergraduate degree
  • Knowledge of construction methods, materials and management (civils background) or knowledge of electrical design including SLDs and general arrangement plans (electrical background)

For CAD Technicians:

  • Experience with Civil 3D and/or Revit desired but not essential
  • Experience in the production of plans as listed above, including:
  • Knowledge of planning application plans and key design and formatting requirements for them;
  • Experience in the necessary software to source input data for land ownership plans; and
  • Experience in the necessary software to source input data for combined utilities plans

We’re offering a competitive compensation package, including participation in our employee share scheme which rewards all employees for the growth of the business.
