Role Summary

  • Provide strategic leadership in governance and risk, aligning with regulatory responsibilities and Numan's values.
  • Offer expert advice on CQC standards related to patient safety.
  • Design and oversee reporting and management systems for clinical and non-clinical incidents, risk registers, and safety alerts.
  • Promote patient safety improvement initiatives and lead Clinical Governance meetings.
  • Act as the escalation point for incidents, leading investigations.
  • Coordinate the production and review of SOPs related to risk management.
  • Drive the implementation of learning from incidents and complaints.

Role Requirements

  • Clinical background with UK professional registration preferred (e.g., GPhC, NMC).
  • Experience with CQC systems and processes, including leading inspections.
  • Proficient in risk management, quality assurance, and improvement work.
  • Ability to draft reports, correspondences, and effectively communicate with various stakeholders.
  • Skilled in data analysis and setting up internal processes for governance and quality work.
  • Knowledge in managing Serious Incidents and Significant Events.
  • Experience with quality assurance tools and policy development.
  • Strong communication skills for broad dissemination.
  • Commitment to quality service provision and teamwork.
  • Flexible and positive with a broad range of duties.

The role

The Governance & Risk Manager will provide strategic leadership and expert support for a programme of work designed to maintain and promote patient safety, clinical risk and audit management here at Numan. You’ll lead a governance and risk agenda that will reflect regulatory responsibilities as well as Numan’s mission and values

You’ll be:

  • Providing expert advice on the CQC Fundamental Standards as they relate to patient safety and advising the business as appropriate.
  • Accountable for the design and delivery of company wide data systems used for reporting and managing: clinical and non-clinical incidents, complaints, risk registers, health and safety risk assessments, clinical excellence and safety alerts, and for ensuring that these systems are fit for purpose.
  • Responsible for the cascading of patient safety improvement initiatives for Numan, working across the business to make sustainable improvements in patient safety and outcomes.
  • Responsible for overseeing and leading governance and risk in the business. 
  • Responsible for the Clinical Governance meetings of the business. 
  • The point of escalation for all incidents and companies, leading the investigation of these.  
  • Coordinating the production and review of SOPs and authoring anything relating to risk management. 
  • Responsible for leading awareness of CQC requirements across the business.
  • Driving the implementation of  learning from any incidents and complaints

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has a clinical background.
  • Is a registered with professional body in the UK (e.g. GPhC or NMC) is desirable. 
  • Has a good understanding and practical application of the Care Quality Commission systems and processes, having successfully led CQC inspections.
  • Has managed risks and reporting systems and structures.
  • Is used to quality assurance and improvement work including complaints management, audit, developing action plans.
  • Can draft briefing papers, reports and correspondence.
  • Can demonstrable ability to work and develop using own initiative and under minimal supervision.
  • Has the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Can collate and analyse data and other evidence sources.
  • Will set up and implement effective internal processes to support governance, risk and quality work.
  • Has good knowledge of managing Serious Incidents and Significant Events and the requirements needed to effectively investigate. 
  • Has the ability to undertake root cause analysis and make recommendations which influence a change in practice. 
  • Is able to develop and oversee a range of appropriate quality assurance tools and demonstrate knowledge of underpinning requirements e.g. QAF, incident registers, audit tools etc.
  • Can draft and oversee review of high quality and concise clinical and non-clinical policies.
  • Has the ability to prepare and produce concise, informative communications for dissemination to a broad audience including colleagues, external partners, senior stakeholders, service users as required to a high standard.
  • Can promote and encourage governance and quality assurance across the organisation.
  • Is committed to the provision of quality services.
  • Is able to work independently as well as being an effective team member.
  • Has a flexible, positive attitude to performing a wide range of duties.
