The Wellcome Trust is a global charitable foundation. We improve health for everyone by funding science, leading policy, and advocacy campaigns, and building partnerships. We plan to spend £16bn over the next ten years, funding new discoveries in life, health, and wellbeing, and taking on three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease and climate and health.

The Discovery Research team supports a broad programme of transformative research that leads to significant shifts in our understanding of life, health, and wellbeing. Our work in the Early Careers space is critical to this mission. Both our funding provision and thought leadership are needed to support a strong pipeline in this transitional time in the research pathway.

In this role you will provide leadership, direction and have oversight of the early career research activities that are integral to the mission of Discovery Research. You will shape the way Discovery Research can better support research and the transitions into, and out of, this career stage and use this information to grow our network of influence with other stakeholders to strengthen support for this work.

To be successful in this role you will have significant expertise in early career research within higher education and research landscape (a PhD or equivalent research experience) and experience of working in a research leadership role that provides experience to understand the ambitions of a major funder.

We offer excellent benefits and help our employees to develop in an open, respectful culture where differences are valued. We are currently working 2 days per week (Tuesdays and Wednesdays) from our Euston Road offices (as part of our hybrid Ways of Working) with the remaining 3 days from home.

To apply please upload your current CV and complete our short application. Interview dates: w/c 15 April.
