What will you be doing?
We are seeking applications from individuals who would like to become Chair of Trustees for Eden Rivers Trust, as this position is about to become vacant on our Board. Naturally we seek applications from those who have an interest in the conservation of rivers, but we also would like to hear from those who have skills or experience in farming, access, engagement and education. In 2024 we will be starting significant, long-term projects in Carlisle, Penrith and Kirkby Stephen so would particularly welcome applications from individuals based in these areas. Our ultimate aim is to develop and broaden the diversity of our Board of Trustees; we are working towards an equal gender balance as well as a variety of perspectives and backgrounds so that our governance is as robust and as representative of our stakeholders as possible.
What are we looking for?
The main skills required are: strategic thinking, leadership and facilitation, teamwork and diplomacy. A knowledge of charity governance and experience of working on a charitable board as an ordinary trustee, essential. We are seeking ordinary trustees at the same time as replacing our Chair, with a particular ( but not exclusive) desire for skills in the areas of Access to the river environment for all Farming Engagement and education as well as a passion for the environment and conservation.
What difference will you make?
As Chair of our Board, you will have a significant role in shaping our work and strategic direction, leading the other trustees and working with the CEO. Helping Eden Rivers Trust in its desire to Re-think Rivers for Good - improving natural rivers processes and water quality, safeguarding wildlife, helping to mitigate flooding and helping everyone enjoy, celebrate and learn about the rivers of Eden and help to their future.
