What will you be doing?
Key Responsibilities
Ensure proper records are kept and that effective financial procedures are in place. Oversee the production of the Annual Accounts by the finance volunteer, prepare the Trustees’ Annual Report and Accounts Arrange for the agreement, review and sign off on the Annual Report and Accounts by trustees and independent examiner, and their submission to the Charity Commission within ten months of the year end Advise fellow Trustees on a regular basis (and as a minimum quarterly) of the financial status of the charity and where necessary recommend appropriate action. Create and present management accounts to the trustees every by-monthly meeting Maintain budgetary oversight with Chairman and other Trustees Ensure the charity complies with legislative and regulatory requirements with regards to financial matters, and acts within the confines of its governing document and in furtherance of organisational activities contained therein. Maintain sound financial management of the charity’s resources, ensuring expenditure is in line with the agreed budget and investment activities meet accepted standards and policies. Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the charity and its resources, striving for best practice in good governance. Promote and develop the charity in order for it to grow and maintain its relevance to society. Provide strategic advice to the charity and its programmes in Malawi To be an active board member Along with other trustees, ensure the charity complies with its governing document and its legal obligations Participate in fundraising projects Work with volunteers and stakeholders in the UK and Malawi

What are we looking for?
Essential knowledge/skills
Knowledge of bookkeeping and financial management (as necessary) Financial analysis skills Dedicated to the organisation’s cause and objectives and willing to act as the charity’s ambassador to external bodies, charities and companies. Willingness to be hands on in projects you're involved in A positive approach Enthusiastic Self-motivated
Desirable knowledge/skills
Knowledge and experience of current and fundraising finance practice relevant to voluntary and community organisations. Qualified accountant with demonstrated commercial awareness and knowledge. Knowledge of charity SORP and impending changes. Proven ability to communicate and explain financial information to members of the Board and other stakeholders. Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship. Demonstrated knowledge and experience of charity fundraising and finance practices. Skills and experience in one or more areas of non-executive governance and management e.g. strategic planning, business management, financial/accountancy, understanding of HR issues, experience of Trusts or other grant giving bodies particularly fundraising and legal knowledge Knowledge of Malawi or Africa Experience working in the education, not for profit or charity sectors Working with volunteers
What difference will you make?
We have been fortunate to have had well qualified trustees to manage our finances and systems are set up. We need management of regular donations of funds and the funds arising from fund raising activities. The integrity of the charity is dependent on open and accurate management of funds raised.
