What will you be doing?
The Chairperson of Abbeyfield Member Societies are responsible for providing effective leadership and management to the Board of Trustees, enabling them to fulfil their responsibilities for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity. Often viewed as an ambassador and public face of the charity, they provide a vision that ensures the house/home is full, provides high quality support and care, and is well-integrated into the community. The role responsibilities include: ● Holding the Board of Trustees to account for the deliverance of the organisation’s strategic objections ● Providing leadership to the Board of Trustees ● Ensuring that each Trustee fulfils their duties and responsibilities for effective governance of the organisation. ● Ensuring that the organisation pursues its purpose, as defined in its governing document, by developing and agreeing a long-term strategy ● Ensuring that the organisation complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations ● Ensuring that the organisation applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its charitable objects for the benefit of the residents. ● Ensuring the effective and efficient administration of the organisation, including having appropriate policies and procedures in place ● Attending the Board Meetings
What are we looking for?
We are seeking a dynamic individual with senior leadership experience to work with our Board of Trustees who is willing and able to devote the necessary time and effort to the organisation in achieving the organisations strategic objectives whilst employing best practise governance. We’re looking for people to join our Board of Trustees to help take Abbeyfield Berkhamsted and Hemel Hempstead forward. We are seeking skilled professionals to help us build upon the past 51 years of success whilst being sufficiently flexible and responsive to meet the challenges that we will face in the future. The sort of person we’re hoping to find has a real interest in supporting older people. They’ll be flexible and resourceful with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and someone used to dealing with a wide variety of people with tact, diplomacy and consideration. A good sense of humor might also help! A background in governance, fundraising, legal, HR or business strategy are hugely valuable although not essential. We are looking for people with enthusiasm and motivation and a can-do attitude, who are comfortable working as part of a team as well as individually, with breadth of vision and a record of independent judgement, an inquiring mind, and an ability to speak articulately and succinctly.
What difference will you make?
The Chair of Trustees will play a crucial role in maintaining the vision, mission and values of Abbeyfield whilst ensuring we remain relevant for the needs of older people and we have a policy of continuous improvement to achieve this. Working closely with the Board of Trustees you will play a key part in ensuring the quality governance and outputs of the Society. You will have the opportunity to raise the profile of the Society whilst driving the strategic direction.
