What will you be doing?
The treasurer for our charity will not only manage the day to day accounts, but will have to process all the transactions for individual cases, checking that everything has been authorised correctly and is allocated to the appropriate case. As we have funds from different providers by way of charitable grants, the treasurer will need to manage individual balances to ensure that the money is spent within the terms of the grant, and assist in the preparation of reports sent to the funders. Annually, the treasurer will work with the trustees in producing the accounts for HMRC and the Charities Commission. We anticipate funding grants in excess of one million in the next tax year, but this is not for paid staff for this kind of role, so we need a volunteer who would be confident in processing transactions involving large sums of money.
What are we looking for?
We would like you to have a background in money management, either from employment or previous volunteering experience. You must be passionate about our cause, and animal welfare generally. When applying, we want to know why you are interested in animal welfare charity volunteering. You need to be proficient in using spreadsheets as we are very reliant on these. Our financial system is complex and so you would need to be a fast learner with excellent IT skills. As preparation of reports is involved, some kind of experience or skills in this area would be an advantage.
What difference will you make?
We make a huge difference to the lives of those affected by domestic abuse, and their animals. As part of our team (we work really closely together and have a family atmosphere, even though it is remote!) the applicant would have a profound affect on the lives of our clients, human and non-human animal alike!
