What will you be doing?

As an Employability Support Group volunteer with Shaw Trust in our local office, you will provide valuable face-to-face support to jobseekers in their journey back to work. Often this involves helping to build a person's confidence and self-esteem, to achieve agreed goals and objectives that will move that person closer to being able to move in to meaningful and sustainable employment. In this role you could support someone with getting them to a good basic standard of IT knowledge. The kind of support you give jobseekers will vary, but may involve helping to:  

Improve and format their CV or make it relevant to a particular role. Improve their online presence in support of furthering their job prospects Practice and prepare for face to face or telephone interviews Submit strong applications by helping the participant understand what an employer is looking for Improve their written skills in relation to applications, letters and personal statements.  Mentor a participant who has recently started a new job. Practise the numeracy skills the participant may need in the workplace. Help a participant improve their confidence with English if it is not their first language. Identify participant’s transferable skillsets and competencies to build their confidence Getting clarity on their desired job role and help to set goals in terms of job search methods/mediums

What are we looking for?

You’ll need to bring your experience of the world of work, recruiting people or motivating others to the role. You will also: • Want to help people facing disadvantage work towards achievable goals • Are able to work with groups of vulnerable adults • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills • Have a professional manner and the ability to work independently • Have patience and excellent listening skills If you are applying to offer coaching sessions to our clients, you'll need to have relevant qualifications and/or experience. Please note if you are working towards a coaching qualification, we are happy to verify the coaching hours you complete with our clients as part of your training.
