We are currently recruiting for a Co-opted Trustee to join the Board of Trustees at BACP. This is a short term role for 1 - 2 years to specifically bring transformation expertise and support our digitisation strategic objective.

What will you be doing?

BACP has just launched an ambitious new 5-year strategy: Increasing our Reach which sets out a bold agenda for BACP and outlines the six objectives that will guide our work.  It aims to deliver even better for BACP members and to change the lives of many more people and communities. It will build on our successes and strengths and work towards BACP becoming a positive force on the global stage for counselling, psychotherapy and coaching professionals. The six strategy objectives are:    

set the global gold standard for best practice in the counselling professions support members with new and customised services throughout their professional journey shape the future of the global counselling professions community ensure financial and organisational sustainability promote a diverse and inclusive profession and access to services establish digital best practice and provide high quality digital services.

The Co-opted trustee will be joining the Board of Trustees to bring specific expertise on transformation and substantive change to BACP so that the charity is fit for the future. The Board of Trustees recognises that to deliver the 5-year strategy, BACP will need to think creatively to deliver more whilst balancing costs. This may require automation of certain aspects of how we deliver our services but also the introduction of digital services that deliver value for money. The Co-opted Trustee for Transformation is therefore vital in ensuring that BACP achieves it's ambitious plans for the charity. You will need to have substantial experience of delivering successful organisation transformation within agreed financial limits. You will also need to have experience of providing challenge and scrutiny of large complex projects with the ability to advise senior leaders to ensure successful delivery.   As the Co-opted trustee will also be joining the Board of Trustee, you will need to have previous experience of sitting on Boards with an understanding of the role of trustees including the legal duties and responsibilities of trustees.

What are we looking for?

The Co-opted Trustee will have:

a high level of understanding and interest in the issues the charity seeks to address/represent a commitment to the values and principles of the charity  strong business and/or financial acumen experience of committee work  highly developed interpersonal and communication skills  ability to understand complex strategic issues, critically assess, analyse and resolve difficult problems  sound, independent judgement, courage, common sense and diplomacy politically astute, with the ability to grasp relevant issues and understand relationships between interested parties  clear understanding, and acceptance, of the legal duties, liabilities and responsibilities of trustees sound knowledge of charity governance  sufficient time and commitment to fulfil the role  ability to listen to and welcome alternative opinions and experiences flexibility in thinking a desire to implement the highest standards of governance

Knowledge and experience of the third sector advantageous but not essential.

As a co-opted trustee, you will have a real opportunity to offer your unique skill set to help the strategic progression of BACP.
