What will you be doing?

We are the UK’s largest network of community groups supporting half a million young people to overcome barriers to reach their full potential. Go! London aims to:

Build a fairer London Strengthen and diversify the capital’s sport and physical activity sector Reduce barriers to physical activity that children and young people face, to tackle social and economic inequalities.

You'll use your professional skills and lived experience to help groups overcome operational challenges, become better equipped for the future, and tackle inequality in sport.  Sported, in partnership with London Youth, have been commissioned to provide capacity building support to applicants and grantees to the different streams of the funding programme. As a Go! London project volunteer, you can support in a number of different ways:

Support a group to complete an in-depth review across all areas of their organisation and subsequent development plan Deliver personalised development plan sessions with 1 or more groups Provide short 1-1 clinics with successful and unsuccessful grant applicants Deliver advanced training on a specific topic as a webinar Host a networking session, either in person or online

Throughout the project, you will have the full support of Sported and London Youth staff to ensure you feel confident in your role.

What are we looking for?

We know representation matters, which is why we want our volunteers to reflect the diversity of the community groups we work with. We are actively encouraging applicants from ethnically diverse backgrounds and other minoritised groups to apply as we are currently under-represented in this space. Working closely with community groups delivering sport and physical activity to young people, you will use your skills to help groups survive, become sustainability, and resilient in response to variety of challenges, including post-Covid recovery and the ongoing cost of living crisis. We welcome volunteers with professional or lived experience in at least one of the following topics:

Action planning - the project provides a simple action plan template for groups

Financial management

Fundraising & Income Generation

Marketing - including digital and social media marketing

PR/Storytelling - including film/video production

Volunteer recruitment and management

Writing and reviewing funding bids

Experience of working with/supporting community sports groups

Our volunteers aren't required to love (or even like!) sport but should have a passion for local groups making a difference to their communities and to young people's lives. We expect all of our volunteers to adhere to our organisational values of:

Demonstrate integrity Commit to inclusion Be people led Drive change

You will receive a full induction and training before starting your role.

What difference will you make?

You will get to meet and directly support passionate sports and physical activity group leaders across London and immerse yourself in their work; use your existing skills in a rewarding fashion whilst developing new ones; guide groups to become sustainable and resilient; network with other like-minded individuals helping grassroots sports groups survive; and so much more. Our volunteers say that making a positive difference for our groups is what they most enjoy about volunteering at Sported through the Go! London Project. One volunteer has said: "I am very excited volunteering on the Go! London project. I have been supporting and developing organisational plans and actions through the one-to-one feedback clinics and the personalised development plans. Being based across the country in Manchester has not deterred me in being involved in the Go! London project and has given me more awareness of projects on the other side of the country. This is a great opportunity to be part of developing a fitter and healthier nation through sport and physical activity!"
