What will you be doing?

We are looking for a person with an interest in the welfare of people with acquired brain injury (ABI), (which includes traumatic brain injury (TBI).  Our Board's current challenges are income and awareness generation in a difficult market. The ideal person will probably come with a wide range of life skills, preferably Board experience or from a senior committee role.  Perhaps a background in social care, welfare benefits, neurological expertees, fundraising, marketing, medical or lived experience of brain injury or other similar life long disability/disadvantage. They need to be passionate about making a difference with the limited resources we currently have and supporting the growth of the charity.  They will need a knowledge of Surrey and living in or on the outskirts of Surrey.  Trustees will need to attend 6 Board Meetings per year, 6pm-7.30pm on Zoom or at the Guildford Centre and one AGM meeting. Chair of Trustees is appointed a four-year term of office and provided with a comprehensive induction and support programme. If you would like to help make a difference to the lives of adults living with brain injuries, we would love to hear from you.    To apply: Please send a C.V. and covering letter indicating why you are interested in this opportunity, and what you would bring to the role:

What are we looking for?

Have a commitment to Headway Surrey and its aims. Have a willingness to devote the necessary time and effort. Possess good judgement and independence of mind. Show a willingness to work collectively as part of a group. Seek constructive debate and dialogue over confrontation. Have or seek to develop relevant contacts and networking skills.  Knowledge of or interest in brain injury, the voluntary sector, or of current health and social services developments would be an advantage.

Specific Skills & Knowledge Requirements  Previous Board experience An interest in brain injury or lived experience. Senior committee level experience.

What difference will you make?

The Chair of Trustees is a key role in our organisation.  Your leadership and commitment will ensure we continue to prove and extend our range of much-needed support and services to our beneficiaries. You will be supporting indirectly, adults who find themselves with an acquired or traumatic brain injury.  You will be helping us to provide support to their families who are faced with the trauma of their lives being changed, with the possibility of them never returning to "normal", or as they were before.  Brain injury is a hidden disability, that is often forgotten because it is not visable.  Every 90 seconds someone attends hospital with a head injury.  Your help and expertees will help ensure the direction of the charity and that they charity operates within its legal boundaries.   The difference you can make would be giving strategic support to the Joint CEOs and Trustees. In addition, we hope that you would like to join in with an occasional event, meet the clients and further our support to the general public.
