What will you be doing?

Barnet Mencap is a thriving medium-sized charity for people with a learning disability and autistic people and their family carers. We are looking for people who are interested in making a contribution to their local community.  Do you have skills to offer a local charity that could make an impact and improve and change people’s lives? As a voluntary trustee you would be part of a dynamic and dedicated team that focuses on the strategic direction and governance of the charity, and become an ambassador for Barnet Mencap.  We are looking to strengthen our team by an additional Trustee with financial skills who can act as our Vice Treasurer. Applications would be most welcome from younger people, people from an ethnic minority and people with an interest in learning disabilities. The Vice Treasurer will assist the Treasurer to maintain an overview of the organisation’s affairs, ensuring its financial viability and ensuring that the proper financial records and procedures are maintained, including:

Ensuring that systems are in place to pay salaries at the right time to all members of staff.

Overseeing and approving the presenting of budgets, accounts, and financial statements.

Being assured that the financial resources of the organisation meet its present and future needs and advising on the financial implications of the organisation’s strategic plans.

Ensuring that the organisation has an appropriate reserve policy.

The preparation and presentation of financial reports to the Board.

Ensuring that the appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place. Monitoring the organisation’s investments, and ensuring that there is no conflict between the investments held and the aims and objectives of the organisation. Ensuring that the accounts are audited in the manner required.

Sitting on recruitment, disciplinary, and appeal panels on matters as required.

If you would like to have an informal discussion about the role, please contact Ray Booth, Chief Executive, on 020 8349 3842.
