What will you be doing?
Green Synergy are looking for a new Treasurer who is passionate about improving lives and communities through gardening and horticulture. Our work includes:
Community gardening and therapeutic horticultural programmes.
Using community gardening to support people to socialise, learn and thrive
Community engagement events that bring people together to create more life chances, quality green spaces and to re-connect people to green spaces, growing and nature.
Green Synergy has ambitious growth plans and we wish to strengthen our board’s expertise in the following areas:
Charity Finance including budgeting and year-end accounts (Treasurer) Marketing and Communications including social media Social Enterprise Knowledge of local policy especially regarding health, social care, education, employment and the environment
What are we looking for?
Trustees must have:
A commitment to the vision, mission and values of Green Synergy A willingness to meet the minimum time commitment including, on occasions, being available to staff for advice and support Integrity including understanding of, and ability to maintain, confidentiality An ability to see the ‘big picture’ and think strategically Good, independent judgement, political impartiality and the ability to think creatively in the context of the organisation and external environment. Effective communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to respect the confidences of colleagues Balancing tact and diplomacy with willingness to challenge and constructively criticise Willingness to express opinion in a reasoned way and to actively participate in discussion An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship An ability to work effectively as a member of a team A willingness to learn and undertake training if required
In addition to the responsibilities of a trustee the Treasurer’s duties are to:
Assure that the financial resource of the organisation meets its present and future needs.
Chair the Finance and Fundraising Review Group in line with the terms of reference and to report findings and ideas back to the board.
Advise on the financial implications of Green Synergy’s strategic and development plans.
Oversee Green Synergy’s financial risk management process by ensuring financial risks are included, assessed and mitigated against in the organisational risk register.
Oversee the annual budgeting cycle.
Ensure financial management reports, including income & expenditure v budget, income and expenditure reforecasts, fund balances and cash flow forecasts are regularly produced and presented to the board.
Ensure the year-end accounts are prepared and disclosed in the form required by the regulatory bodies and funders.
Ensure the year-end accounts are externally scrutinised in the manner required, liaising with the external examiner/auditor as required.
What difference will you make?
The role of the Treasurer is to maintain an overview of Green Synergy’s finances, ensure its financial viability, and ensure proper financial records, reports and procedures are maintained and in line with legal and regulatory requirements. As a Treasurer you will:
Have an induction, training and reimbursable expenses Contribute to improving lives and communities that are disadvantaged Have opportunities to develop new skills and to network with professionals
A wide range of applications are welcomed especially from those with lived experience. The expected time commitment is a bimonthly board meeting and other events. As well as preparing for the board meetings trustees may be called upon for specific advice and support in their areas of expertise.
