What will you be doing?

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic VOLUNTEER who will serve as the Strategy Director (SD), leading the strategic research and development of the organisation, overseeing the Director-General’s Office (Strategy Section) and, in partnership with the Head of Communications & Public Relations (HCM) and Fundraising Manager (FRM), monitor the work of the Communications Branch (Fundraising Unit) under the External Affairs Bureau. SD is also a member of the Executive Committee and the head of the Strategy Officer Grade. The ideal candidate is driven and experienced; and looking to make a difference in international climate change governance. The successful candidate will be a competent strategist or director with experience managing strategy implementation from inception to completion. Working with initiative and having a desire to find solutions to organisational problems should be second nature. Experience as the Chief Strategy Officer or most senior Strategy Director in an international organisation will be highly beneficial, as will strategy experience in a non-profit environment. Key responsibilities will include:

Oversee BCI’s Strategy Section of the Director-General’s Office by leading the development of the strategic framework for the organisation, while adhering to the direction set by the Director-General; Evaluate short-term or long-term projects, addressing a range of issues and needs; Collaborate with the management or other volunteers to action respective goals and requirements; Utilise both traditional and modern assessment tools, such as interviews, surveys, and evaluations, strategic frameworks etc. Understand situational interpretations and analyse data to identify and understand challenges; Present and explain findings to the Executive Committee; Provide advice or suggestions for improvements that meet our strategic goals; Formulate plans for implementation of recommendations; Negotiate and overcome objections from stakeholders and various levels of management and sometimes external stakeholders; and Suggest and resource training needed to meet challenges that may arise.

What are we looking for?

Key requirements:

Experience in the civil service, inter-governmental organisations, NGO or other non-profit organisations; Significant work experience as a Management Consultant or Strategist Proven experience in the managing large multi-phase projects and strong knowledge of business management best practices Solid knowledge of data analysis and research techniques; aptitude for analytical and creative thinking Familiarity with common business software, project management programs and IT systems Able to develop and present detailed, actionable proposals and plans Impeccable organisational skills Excellent listening skills with an ability to communicate with professionals in various disciplines Ability to manage ad-hoc activities as needed

Excellent communication skills, including exceptional written English; ability to draft meeting papers, develop effective working relationships, work flexibly across professional and operational boundaries, and communicate professionally with internal and external stakeholders at all levels; Proven ability to lead, develop and motivate colleagues Proven ability to effectively multitask and prioritise work Excellent problem-solving skills; Excellent attention to detail and proactive attitude

General & Specialist Knowledge:

Strong strategist expertise is essential Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is essential Some knowledge on topics central to the BCI such as climate change, climate finance and blockchain technology preferred.

Education & Training

At least Bachelor’s degree level (Master’s degree in management & MBA preferred)

Relevant Experience:

Familiarity with the UNFCCC Secretariat, COP and the wider international climate policy community; additional professional qualifications/ certifications a plus 20+ years’ experience working in a similar role is essential, ideally acquired in a consulting practice and non-profit environment Experience in building constructive relationships with stakeholders Experience working independently and with teams to drive forward projects using own initiative.

What difference will you make?

Reporting to the Director-General, you will be responsible for formalising the BCI’s strategic planning processes and leading the development of the strategy, translating it for colleagues across the various functions. You will drive organisational change forging new working relationships and synergies across the organisation, and establishing greater transparency and accountability for those people carrying out the organisation’s strategy. Capable of drafting strategy papers, you will lead the analyses and development of proposals for revenue generation and various government-focused innovation support initiatives relevant to BCI’s scope of activities. You must be a natural communicator who can gain consensus, be accurate, understandable and provide actionable suggestions to guide BCI’s activities to be more functional, more successful, adding to BCI’s core internal competencies.
