What will you be doing?

We have a transformative approach to the climate crisis, in which people can see how our simple, elegant, transformative approach could change everything. It isn't of course business-as-usual, continuous small improvements or the usual bread and butter charitable activities, as good and as necessary as they are. But society needs transformation now, and we need someone who can help us make the case for the approach that we are advocating. We have 3 audiences - grassroots, which is coming along nicely in North London, business - both local to our grassroots group and potentially, corporate, and third, NGOs and policy makers. This is something that all 3 could support, because at its heart we're promoting an economic climate policy that can be demonstrated by local citizens on the ground, showing what it might look like and how it might impact the lives of a group of volunteer participants. We need to do fundraising to cover the initial bootstrapping, work out first steps, create targets, find collaborators, identify potential big funders, decide on campaign types and styles, clarify what resources are needed, put together a longer term plan etc. You will work with our director who can give knowledge and insights into the whole operation and help translate on-the-ground activities, policy concepts and future plans into bids, proposals and pitches that will hopefully get their reward.

What are we looking for?

On the basis that the climate crisis is not getting solved right now, one has to admit that everything else out there hasn't worked yet. Have you done fundraising that starts with the big picture of what you want to do and how you believe it will work, and distils it down to the essence which will appeal to the funders? With your knowledge of how the third sector funders think, we can work together to find a way - maybe run-of-the-mill, maybe pushing the envelope. That's what we hope to find out. This might need a brainstorming session or sessions, or there might be clear formula to follow. We're not sure because there is so much 'advice' out there and we don't have the knowledge or experience to separate the wheat from the chaff - that's where you would come in. If you build a good relationship with us and want to get involved long term, it would make perfect sense to discuss a trustee role, or you might stay in the same role as you help us progress from start-up to established charity.

What difference will you make?

We are small but ambitious and assuming you buy into what we are advocating, your influence will be highly significant and appreciated. We exist to advocate a particular approach to climate action and all that we do seems existentially important, so it might seem intense. Hopefully though that shows how much your good work would be valued.
