What will you be doing?

Newington Green Alliance (NGA) is a small charity focused on building community and connection across differences and divisions in the area Hackney and Islington, London. A key part of NGA's work involves building connections with groups and individuals who live or work in the area. We want these people to help to focus NGA on the areas of greatest need and to work in the ways that best benefit the community. This role involves outreach to a wide range of people and also includes connecting people with NGA as 'members.' NGA is membership-based. Interested people are welcome to join as members and then - as members - are invited to guide the organisation and empowered to elect trustees to lead the organisation. The members must especially be kept informed about and engaged with NGA's activities and directions. This role involves outreach and engagement in the community including invitations to become NGA members. It includes preparation of informational content, digital communication, in-person communication, and strategic planning.

What are we looking for?

Person

At least three years experience working with representatives of diverse communities and engaging, empowering, and inspiring them to contribute meaningfully to a worthy cause involving mutual support. Excellent ability in preparing written communication High level of capability in using email, Facebook, and other digital communication modes. Experienced and capable at preparing presentations that are clear, informative, concise, and persuasive. Comfortable with in-person communication with individuals and groups. Facility in building connections with diverse people Works well with team-working. Self-motivated and seeks and finds ways through complexity, conflict, and obstacles.

Practical

Must be able to commit to at least 3 hours per week of mostly remote working Must be able to commit to at least 6 months of volunteering in this roll Most work will be remote but must be able to access Newington Green for occasional in-person interactions

What difference will you make?

The work you will do will better integrate NGA into the community it serves. You will empower the diverse members of the local community to steer NGA in the directions that are most relevant and beneficial to them. This will keep NGA accountable to its beneficiaries.
