What will you be doing?
Newington Green Alliance (NGA) is a different kind of charity: hyperlocal and focused on building strong cross-difference community as a means to improving lives and alleviating suffering. NGA is seeking additional trustees to diversify the board's skill sets, viewpoint and background. NGA trustees provide overall guidance and set policies to ensure that the charity achieves its core purpose - building hyperlocal community promote thriving. Duties:
Support and advise on NGA’s purpose, vision, goals and activities. Approve strategies and policies, and monitor their implementation. Ensure that key risks are identified, monitored and controlled. Keep abreast of and respond to changes in NGA’s operating environment. Attend Board meetings, adequately prepared to contribute to discussions. Contribute to the broader promotion of NGA’s objects, aims and reputation Represent the needs and interests of the community NGA serves.
There are times when the trustees need to be actively involved beyond Board meetings. This may involve scrutinising board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, presenting externally, or other issues in which the trustee has special expertise. Terms of office
Trustees are appointed for a three year term of office, renewal for two further terms
Time commitment
Attending six Board meetings annually. Currently meetings are held remotely by video call Attending AGMs, occasional special gatherings, and additional ad hoc working subgroup meetings.
What are we looking for?
What we are looking for
We are looking for people willing to bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the role, and who will broaden the diversity of thinking on our board. Residence in or near the Newington Green area of London is strongly preferred. At least three years of professional experience in at least one of the follow areas:
Communications and Marketing Finance Charity fundraising Strategic development HR/Volunteer management Research and analysis charity-related areas Charity trustee or executive
Personal skills and qualities
Willingness and ability to understand and accept their responsibilities and authorities as trustees and to act in the best interests of the organisation. Ability to think creatively and strategically, exercise good, independent judgement and work effectively as a board member. Effective communication skills and willingness to participate actively in discussion. A strong personal commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion. Enthusiasm for our vision and mission.
