What will you be doing?
The NWCA Treasurer will have the following duties:
Supporting the Accounts Assistant In conjunction with the Chair and CEO, preparing the draft budget for the ensuing year, for Board approval In conjunction with the Accounts Assistant and CEO, oversee the preparation of the quarterly management accounts as required by the Board. Explaining, guiding and advising the Board on the budget and management accounts Advising the Board on its Surplus and Reserves Policy Preparing and/or reading papers for Board meetings and attending meetings of the Board and its Strategy and Business Development Committee meetings Preparation of annual accounts in conjunction with the Accounts Assistant and CEO in compliance with the Charities SORP; submitting the accounts for Independent Examination; presenting the accounts to the Board, for approval, and explaining the accounts to the Board; presenting and explaining the accounts to the members, staff and volunteers at each AGM; and filing the accounts with regulators Keeping the board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities Establishing as necessary and monitoring internal procedures Understanding and monitoring changes in external accounting policies and procedures Establishing as necessary, in conjunction with the Accounts Assistant and CEO, internal financial controls and understanding and monitoring them to provide assurance to the Board Working with other trustees to:
set policy and strategy direction; set targets; and evaluate the performance of NWCA monitor the financial position of NWCA ensuring that it operates within its means and objectives
Review NWCA’s performance and how effectively it operates including recommendations for any for improvement
What are we looking for?
You’ll need to:
Understand the duties and responsibilities of directors and trustees Have a relevant accounting qualification ideally, or relevant accountancy experience Have demonstrable knowledge of financial systems and financial control Have some knowledge or experience of the principles of charity finances Have current and appropriate computer skills Be able to summarise and explain financial reports to trustees at meetings Be willing to learn about, and follow, the Citizens Advice aims, principles and policies Observe confidentiality and GDPR/data protection procedures
