One Acre Fund is a renowned organization, founded in 2006, working to enhance the productivity of 5.5 million smallholder farmers across nine African nations by providing quality farm supplies, training, credit, and a variety of other aid. As locally known 'Tubura,' our Burundi program serves over 340,000 unique farmers. This exciting role provides the opportunity to lead our national tree program, aiming to distribute 10 million trees annually.

Role Summary:

  • Leading the national tree program aiming to deliver 10 millions trees per year.
  • Improving the impact, efficiency, and environmental responsibility of the program.
  • Potential to double the Agroforestry Programme size.

Role Requirements:

  • Over 5 years of experience in executing major decentralized rural programs.
  • Proven managerial skills, including field and performance management.
  • Experience with smallholder farmers and swift project implementation prowess.
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Agroforestry or Regenerative Agriculture.
  • Proficiency in English and, optionally, in French and Kirundi.

One Acre Fund, founded in 2006, equips 5.5 million smallholder farmers across nine countries in Africa to enhance farm productivity. We provide high-quality farm supplies, tree seedlings, accessible credit, modern agronomic training, and a range of other agricultural services. Our Burundi program, known locally as Tubura, was established in 2011 and has grown to serve over 340,000 unique farmers in 7 provinces.

The Role: As the Burundi Agroforestry Lead, you will spearhead our national trees program, aiming to deliver 10 million trees a year to farmers. This role involves enhancing the impact, efficiency, and environmental responsibility of the program. Your leadership could potentially double the size of the Agroforestry Programme, introduce new tree varieties, and increase the overall impact for farmers.

Job Requirements: You will need over 5 years of experience in executing major decentralized rural programs, with proven managerial skills including field and performance management. Experience with smallholder farmers and a track record of implementing projects from strategic to operational phases swiftly is preferred. A Bachelor's degree is required, with studies in Agroforestry or Regenerative Agriculture being an advantage. Proficiency in English is required, and knowledge of French and other local languages (Kirundi) is highly desirable.
