What will you be doing?
We are a small, friendly, non-profit based in North London who create biodiversity projects in schools and social housing estates. We started in 2023 with one school and now have 12 projects running. We raise funds in creative ways and spend the money on planting and other nature-friendly projects, getting the school/community involved. Our purpose is two-fold; 1. Tackle climate change by increasing urban biodiversity and 2. Getting young people and communities excited about nature and wildlife. We need help with getting our message out to the wider world - specifically to assist in fundraising, getting more projects, attracting local volunteers, and making our voice heard. This role would suit someone with availability of around one day per week (flexible hours with a weekly team meeting on Friday at 1.45pm, either in person or on zoom as you prefer), a love of nature, concern about climate change and skills in PR and communications. We would like regular press releases written about our latest activities, calls to journalists to get stories in place and set up interviews with managers, a picture and video archive, spreading the word via other channels such as complementary organisations' newsletters and digital presence, plus all the new ideas you will bring! We are a small team and you would be a core part of it.
What are we looking for?
Dealing with local and national press and other media such as local TV, writing press releases, talking to journalists, persuading other organisations to link with us, writing articles, coming up with ideas, measuring success, building an archive and keeping thorough records. Social media is also important to us and we use Instagram, however although you should be competent and confident in digital media, it is not a main requirement of the role.
What difference will you make?
You will help us to punch above our weight with gaining funding, attracting new projects, influencing local government and building an effective network of like-minded organisations. And all of those things will create urban biodiversity and the nature champions of tomorrow!
