Job Description:

BeZero is looking for an exceptional candidate with sector expertise in renewable energy, CDR, waste or industrial projects to join our carbon credit ratings team. The ideal candidate would have an academic background in engineering and/or sciences. In addition, their professional experience will bring knowledge of developing technology-based projects on the ground, auditing/reviewing the carbon accountancy parameters of these projects such as baselines, carbon pool models and/or development of sector-relevant methodologies.

In-depth knowledge of the Voluntary Carbon Offset Market is essential, with relationships within registry and standards bodies helpful. We are looking for a driven, creative and intellectually curious individual excited by the prospect of working at an innovative start-up aiming to rethink the frameworks within which credits from such projects as assessed for quality.

The role will be primarily focused on the development, refinement, and communications of BeZero methodologies for non-nature based risk assessments. The Lead will secondarily communicate to the market through blogs and other communications, how BeZero methodologies are providing rigorous risk assessments, and will continue to build our database of evidence and ratings and content stream broadly for the sector. The successful candidate will be expected to drive analytical development, BeZero’s research and refine ratings frameworks for this sector group. It will also require interacting with both internal and external stakeholders and consequently, strong written, presentational, and oral communication skills are essential. The ideal candidate will bring a depth of knowledge in their area of expertise and the ability to create effective messaging for a diverse audience. The candidate will report to BeZero’s Chief Ratings Officer, and can work remotely or from our London-based office on GMT hours.

Responsibilities:

• Research and development of current and emerging non-nature based methodologies

• Researching energy, waste and industrial projects in the voluntary carbon market, as well as sector-wide insights

• Support ratings analysts through peer review, ratings committees, and sometimes leading rating analyses

• Curating our literature database

• Writing research reports on market trends and dynamics.

• Attending conferences and events representing BeZero Carbon

• Working towards monthly targets through delivery of ratings, reviews and content.

Our ideal candidate will:

• Have an academic / professional background in engineering and/or sciences.

• Have professional experience related to non-nature based projects in the VCM

• Have previous management experience

• Have strong written and spoken communication skills

• Have a strong research background and analytical skills

• Be comfortable speaking to high-level clients and external stakeholders

• Have a strong understanding of the voluntary carbon market and the risks offset projects face.
