Role Summary
- Become part of the Future CTO Community, in collaboration with Founders Factory.
- Contribute to launching 9 mission-driven ventures by the end of 2024.
- Engage with a program focused on diversifying CTO roles, with an emphasis on women and underrepresented groups.
- Network with established CTOs and gain insights into the startup ecosystem.
- Access firsthand startup CTO experiences and potential founding opportunities.
- Work on ventures related to home decarbonization, healthy living, and social mobility.
Role Requirements
- Experience in leading technical teams, launching products, or working in a startup environment.
- Ambition to progress into founding or co-founding roles.
- Strong potential and a drive to develop tech-enabled ventures with a positive societal impact.

Nesta is an innovation foundation. We are working to narrow the outcome gap between children growing up in disadvantage and the national average, increase the average number of healthy years lived in the UK, and accelerate the UK’s transition to a low-carbon, productive economy. We are currently halfway through our journey, with 6 ventures already being built, 6 Founders recruited and more team members coming on board.
The role entails joining Mission Studio’s Future CTO Community, a Joint Venture between Nesta and Founders Factory. We are aiming to spin out 9 mission aligned ventures by the end of 2024. We are setting up the Community for Women CTOs to challenge the trend of CTO roles struggling to recruit candidates from diverse backgrounds. This community is open to all, but we’d particularly love to hear from women, or those who are minoritised ethnic, have a disability or from a lower socio-economic background.
As a member of this community, you will join existing CTO circles at Nesta’s Mission Studio partner - Founders Factory, get linked up with existing new and experienced CTO’s, be the first to access to Mission Studio CTO roles, get exposure to the realities of the day to day life of a startup CTO, and have the opportunity to apply to join mission led commercial ventures across - home decarbonisation, healthy living and social mobility.
You might be a Head of Engineering, Head of Product, Senior Software Engineer looking to take the next step into a Founding role. Previous experience can range across leading technical teams, launching new products and working in an early stage startup. You might feel a Co/Founder role is of interest in the next 6 - 12 months, if so we’d still love to hear from you. The main thing we’re looking for is potential and a passion for building impactful, tech-enable ventures.
