  • Role Summary:
    • Teach a class of international students aged 13-18 for 3 hours per day, Monday to Friday, over a 3-week program.
    • Devise and deliver compelling lesson plans focused on study skills improvement.
    • Engage in evening activities and ensure student safety and well-being.
    • Be a positive influence and mentor while completing academic reports and contributing to the ISSOS magazine.
  • Role Requirements:
    • Prior experience teaching study skills is mandatory.
    • Preferred experience with international students.
    • Proficient public speaker capable of hosting seminars.
    • Strong research skills and the ability to guide students.
    • Knowledge of the International Baccalaureate course is advantageous.
    • Fluency in English is a must.
  • Application Process Details:
    • Applicants must be a UK or US citizen or have the legal right to work in the country where they are applying.

    • All candidates must pass a criminal background check.

Reimbursement: Competitive salary with travel reimbursement and provided accommodation & meals during the program. Orientation and training included.

The Study Skills Teacher at ISSOS will lead our course which is designed to prepare students who are about to start their final, challenging, years of high school with the vital skills they will need for future university-level study.

WHEN AND WHERE WE NEED YOU St Andrews: Wednesday 26th June - Thursday 15th August 2024 Cambridge: Saturday 6th July – Thursday 1st August 2024 Yale: Wednesday 10th July – Monday 5th August 2024

YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaching a class of international students, 3 hours per day, Monday to Friday, for the duration of the 3-week programme Creating and executing interesting and engaging lesson plans Providing students with lessons tailored to improve their study skills and habits Taking part in evening activities (compulsory rota basis) Making sure students are safe and happy at all times Being a positive role model Completing Academic Reports for your students before the close of session Contributing a short article for our summer magazine, The ISSOS Times

WHAT SKILLS/EXPERIENCE DO YOU NEED? Previous experience teaching study skills is essential Experience in teaching international students preferred Confident public speaker and experienced in delivering seminars Well-established research skills and confidence to mentor students Currently undertaking or recently finished postgraduate research work Knowledge of the International Baccalaureate Course You must be fluent in English

WHAT DOES THIS JOB INVOLVE? The Study Skills Teacher at ISSOS will lead our course which is designed to prepare students who are about to start their final, challenging, years of high school with the vital skills they will need for future university-level study.

Your role will be to improve students’ work habits and general academic performance and assist them in developing a range of academic skills like critical thinking, time management, essay writing, presentation skills and internet research.

As an ISSOS teacher, you have your own class of international students aged 13-18 years old. Our classes are kept small in order to provide individual attention, personalised instruction and create an encouraging, supportive and fun environment for students to learn while making new friends from around the world.

Although we provide every teacher a guide as to what each lesson should achieve, we ask our teachers to bring their own experience and personality to each class and create their own stimulating and challenging lesson plans.

We are looking for charismatic, inspirational individuals who are experienced in their field and who can provide a nurturing yet challenging atmosphere with individual attention and strong classroom management skills.

All of our summer positions are fully residential and all of our staff teams will be actively involved in the various events and activities that we put on for our students.

REIMBURSEMENT: Before the start of the session, we run a three-day orientation (dates are inclusive of this). Staff members receive reimbursement after the session. Travel reimbursements and any finders’ fees are paid separately.

We provide accommodation in all locations for all staff. Meals are provided in the halls of residence once students arrive, however, staff are responsible for their meals during Orientation.

St Andrews : £2000 GBP per session ( £4000 GBP for the full contract) Cambridge: £2000 GBP for the session Yale: $2500 USD for the session

TRAVEL: Up to £150 reimbursed for travel to/from St Andrews/Cambridge

Travelling within the US : Up to $350 reimbursed for travel to/from Yale

Travelling from outside of the US : Up to $500 reimbursed for travel to/from Yale .

If we are taking you on the J1 visa , we will also reimburse up to $150 for travel to your embassy appointment .

The cost of the J1 Visa + SEVIS Fee is paid for by ISSOS .

Flights & Embassy Appointment costs are the responsibility of the staff member.

ANYTHING ELSE YOU SHOULD KNOW? All of our staff must pass a full criminal background check* All staff are required to be on duty (on a rota basis) for evening programmes, activities, day trips, and arrival/departure days.
