Held at the distinguished universities of St Andrews, Cambridge, and Yale, ISSOS provides a unique blend of educational, cultural, and fun experiences in a dynamic three-week program. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a diverse and talented team, dedicated to nurturing the next generation of creative minds.

  • Teach international students creative writing for 3 hours daily on weekdays during the 3-week summer program.
  • Guide students through ideation, drafting, revising, and editing to produce original literary works.
  • Engage with a diverse classroom environment to enhance students' language skills and creativity.
  • Participate in evening activities as per the scheduled rota.
  • Prior teaching experience is mandatory.
  • Preference for candidates with experience teaching international students.
  • Strong expertise in various writing techniques and fluency in English is required.
  • Applicants must be UK or US citizens, or have the legal right to work in the respective country.

ISSOS offers staff accommodation, meals during program days, travel reimbursements, and finder’s fees. Please note that we do not offer visa sponsorship for UK positions. For J1 visa hires, ISSOS covers the J1 visa and SEVIS fee, and reimburses up to $150 for embassy appointment travel costs.

The organisation - ISSOS We are an international summer school that provides a balanced summer program of academia, fun and culture for 13–18 year olds from over 80 nationalities, at the University of St Andrews, Cambridge and Yale universities.

The role - Creative Writing Teacher Through interactive workshops covering all phases of the writing process from idea generation to writing/revising drafts and editing, you will help our students to understand and harness the forces of creative language to produce original poems, scripts and short stories. You will be teaching a class of international students, 3 hours per day, every weekday morning for the duration of the 3-week programme. You will also be required to take part in evening activities on a compulsory rota basis.

Job requirements Previous teaching experience is essential. Experience in teaching international students is preferred. You must have strong knowledge and skills in a variety of writing techniques and be fluent in English. You must either be a UK or a US citizen, or have the legal right to work in the country you are applying for a role in. Please note that we cannot sponsor visas for working in the UK.

Benefits We provide accommodation in all locations for all staff. Meals are provided in the halls of residence once students arrive, however, staff are responsible for their meals during Orientation. Travel reimbursements and any finders’ fees are paid separately.

Visa requirements If we are taking you on the J1 visa, we will also reimburse up to $150 for travel to your embassy appointment. The cost of the J1 Visa + SEVIS Fee is paid for by ISSOS. Flights & Embassy Appointment costs are the responsibility of the staff member.
