Join our dynamic team and foster a passion for debate and public speaking in international students at our summer school. As a Debate Coach, you'll not only teach but also become a beacon of knowledge and inspiration for young minds eager to learn the art of effective communication.

Organisation Summary

Our summer school programs are designed to empower and educate international students through a wide range of courses and activities. We focus on creating a safe, engaging, and enjoyable learning environment where students can develop their skills and make lifelong connections. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a diverse group of students and make a lasting impact on their educational journey.

Role Summary

  • Conduct daily workshops for 3 hours on weekdays, teaching all facets of debate.
  • Develop and implement creative lesson plans.
  • Participate in evening activities on a rotational basis.
  • Ensure the overall well-being and safety of students.
  • Act as a positive role model.
  • Contribute to our summer magazine, The ISSOS Times.

Role Requirements

  • Must be a clear and effective communicator.
  • Should be enthusiastic and self-motivated.
  • Must be passionate about public speaking and debate.
  • Should have the legal right to work in the UK or the US, or be a citizen of either country (visa sponsorship not available).
  • A team player engaged in the broader summer school activities.

Reimbursement and Benefits

  • Orientation provided before the session begins.
  • Compensation is issued post-session, with travel reimbursements and finder’s fees paid separately.
  • Housing provided in all locations.
  • Meals included once students arrive; staff responsible for their own meals during Orientation.

The Debate Coaches will work as a pair to lead engaging workshops on the art of public speaking, covering all aspects of debate including delivery, organisation, evidence analysis, argument intervention and debating theory.

WHO CAN APPLY? To apply for our roles you must either be a UK or a US citizen, or have the legal right to work in the country you are applying for a role in. Please note that we cannot sponsor visas for working in the UK.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaching a class of international students, 3 hours per day, every weekday morning for the duration of the 3 week programme Creating and executing interesting and engaging lesson plans Taking part in evening activities (compulsory rota basis) Making sure students are safe and happy at all times Being a positive role model Contributing a short article for our summer magazine, The ISSOS Times

REIMBURSEMENT: Before the start of the session, we run a three-day orientation (dates are inclusive of this). Staff members receive reimbursement after the session. Travel reimbursements and any finders’ fees are paid separately.

We provide accommodation in all locations for all staff. Meals are provided in the halls of residence once students arrive, however, staff are responsible for their meals during Orientation.
