What will you be doing?

About us: For over 21 years, we've been dedicated to providing practical support and advice to some of the most vulnerable individuals in Brighton and Hove. Our small team of paid staff and volunteers offers compassionate assistance to help individuals overcome financial hardship through budget management and debt advice, and access essential welfare benefits. Last year alone, we assisted over 800 people, making a real difference in their lives.   Why join us? As a values-based organisation, our trustees play a critical role in shaping the future of our charity. We're looking for a new trustee who can bring energy, enthusiasm, and a fresh perspective to our Board. You don't need previous trustee experience - if you have the motivation, transferable skills, and time to commit, we'll provide effective induction and training to support you in this meaningful role. What we're looking for: We're particularly interested in trustees with a passion for fundraising and/or communications and public relations. We hope that you will bring fundraising or relevant transferable skills  to the organisation, working with our Chair and Service Delivery Manager to deliver on our ambitious fundraising agenda. Key responsibilities:

Provide leadership, advice and support on SLAS's purpose, vision, and core activities. Lead on our fundraising strategy, plan and initiatives, working closely with the staff team  Approve operational strategies and policies, ensuring alignment with our goals. Help to secure funding to sustain our service and oversee financial plans and budgets. Contribute to governance reviews and organisational development. Attend trustee committee meetings and actively participate in decision-making.

What are we looking for?

We have an ambitious fundraising agenda and need trustee who has:

Enthusiasm for our mission and values, including equity, diversity, and inclusion. Willingness to aways act in the best interests of the organisation. Strategic thinking, good judgment, and effective communication skills. Specialist knowledge or transferable skills relative to fundraising for small charities.  Time to devote to being a trustee over and above attending monthly trustee board meetings.  Passion for learning as well as enabling others to grow and succeed.
