What will you be doing?
Learn For Life is a recently formed charity which supports individuals and small organisations in education. Our recipients are in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Zambia. We will have a turnover of about £200,000 a year, mostly from one generous donor. We are looking for a Trustee with financial experience to support the board with its financial processes so that we can be sure the governance is robust. In addition, you will be involved in developing the strategic direction of the charity as it finds its feet over the next few years. You will have some skills and experience in managing funding, preferably in the NGO/charity sector. You do not need to be an accountant, but some financial/funding experience would be required. You will have an eye for detail and be happy to challenge us to improve our processes. You will be passionate about supporting inequality and want to contribute to the improvement of the lives of those that the charity assists. The charity has an administrator to deal with all financial transactions, so you will not need to do this. Ideally and when you are ready, we would like you to take on the role of treasurer of the organisation.
What are we looking for?
You will have experience in financial processes and/or accounting. You do not need to be a qualified accountant. If you have experience in the third sector, that would be a real bonus, and experience of managing money internationally, moving money between the UK and the global south, would also be an advantage. If you have worked in education this would also be useful, but not essential.
What difference will you make?
You will be part of the team developing the charity, defining its direction and ensuring that we make the best use of the funding. You will help us to make sure our financial processes are excellent and we run a legally and financially sound organisation. You will join a great team supporting those who are living with disadvantage and disability, enabling them to access education.
