As our first COO, you'll be at the forefront of our expansion, leading our talented customer-facing teams - scaling tech, tools and processes - and ensuring Byway travellers are delighted every step of the way.

Since our inception in March 2020, we've booked 7,000 travellers onto unforgettable holidays, with 97% of five-star reviews. We’re growing 3x YoY and are regularly featured in the press, including the Guardian, BBC, and New York Times.

The role - what the role entails

Your role will be to lead our daily operations, including sales, customer experience, and trip delivery, ensuring operational excellence, efficiency in time and margin, and customer delight at scale. You will also collaborate with tech and product to implement initiatives that support our growth across geographies and timezones.

You will work with our CEO and leadership team to shape and execute strategic plans aligned with our long-term vision & mission.

Job requirements

We are looking for someone with significant experience scaling operations in a customer-centric B2C organisation, including customer experience. You should have a brilliant coach-leader mindset with a knack for nurturing talent and driving career development. You should have a track record running teams with fantastic customer feedback and delighting customers at scale. Expertise in financial management and data-driven decision-making is required.

A product focus, tech company experience, and high data literacy is also required. Familiarity with tech solutions and their role in scaling operations is also required. Significant experience running generalist business expansion initiatives is also required.


We offer 1-1.5% equity, £70k-£90k salary, depending on experience and salary/equity balance.

We are a remote-first, flexible working company.

We offer 80 hours whenever: flexi-working across two week periods.

We offer 20 days wherever: work when you like and where you like for most of the month.

We offer 2 days together: join us in London two days each month including our monthly social.

We offer a funded a day a week in a coworking space.

We offer one cost-price Byway holiday per year and agency rates with Eurostar for you and your family/friends.

We offer 33 holidays days a year (including bank holidays) and an optional extra two days if you travel flight free with Climate Perks.

We offer an annual autumn Away Afternoon and optional Weekend Away in spring.

We offer the option to work four days per week, pro rata.
