Role Summary:

  • Leading the support for community groups in obtaining Bathing Water status for inland waterways.
  • Developing guidance materials and supporting tools for inland bathing applications.
  • Facilitating groups throughout the designation application process.
  • Assisting in the execution of the citizen science water quality testing programme.

Role Requirements:

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in community group support or related work.
  • Demonstrable project management and organisation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal abilities and independent problem-solving skills.
  • A full, clean UK driving licence and readiness to travel, including occasional overnight stays.

Surfers Against Sewage is a marine conservation and campaigning charity that has grown into one of the UK’s most successful organisations in its field over the last 30 years. We are dedicated to the health of the ocean and the planet, and we are looking for a Community Water Quality Officer to join our team.

The Role: As a Community Water Quality Officer, you will be responsible for delivering a programme of work to support community groups in applying for and achieving official Bathing Water status, particularly focused on inland waterways. You will also support the creation of guidance documents and tools to support inland bathing applications, and actively support community groups through the designation application process. You will also assist the Science & Research Officer with the delivery of SAS’s citizen science water quality testing programme.

Job Requirements: To be successful in this role, you will need at least 1 year of experience in working with and supporting community groups, or equivalent experience. You should have proven organisation and project delivery skills, strong people skills, and the ability to work independently and take initiative to solve problems. A full, clean UK driving licence and willingness to travel within the UK, with occasional overnight stays, is also required.
