Role Summary:

  • Lead training in Science for Teach First's Training Programme.
  • Develop trainee teachers' subject knowledge and pedagogy.
  • Collaborate with mentors to guide trainees towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and completion of their Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE).
  • Empower trainees to become educational leaders passionate about tackling inequality.

Role Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and school leadership experience.
  • Strong understanding of classroom pedagogy, the Teachers' Standards, and the Core Content Framework.
  • Commitment to ongoing personal and professional development up to Master’s level.
  • Minimum two years of experience mentoring and coaching new teachers.
  • Secondary phase classroom teaching experience, with a minimum of two years spent developing teachers in your subject specialism.
  • Expert knowledge of the pedagogy in your subject area.

As a Development Lead - Science, you will work on our Training Programme, teaching a subject-specific area of our secondary curriculum. You will work with a portfolio of trainees to develop their subject knowledge and subject-specific pedagogy, ensuring they achieve QTS and support them to complete their PGDE. You will collaborate with their Practice Development Lead and school mentor, to see trainees grow into leaders, committed to making a difference to educational inequality.

We are looking for candidates with QTS and school leadership experience. You should have excellent classroom pedagogy and good knowledge of both the Teachers' Standards and Core Content Framework. You should be committed to developing yourself and others through to Master’s level. You should have experience in developing, mentoring and coaching inexperienced teachers within a training route for at least two years. You should be a secondary phase specialist with at least two years’ experience of classroom teaching in this phase. You should have at least two years’ experience of developing teachers within your subject specialism. Your knowledge of the pedagogy underpinning your subject specialism should be exemplary.
