The British Museum is seeking an experienced lawyer to join the Legal Services team as a Legal Counsel. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the implementation of the Museum’s Legal Strategy and deliver a sector-leading advisory function.

The Role: As a Legal Counsel, you will provide accurate, timely and effective advice to colleagues around the Museum. You will be part of a small and collegial team with a busy and varied workload. Your responsibilities will include providing high-quality in-house legal advice, working with external legal advisers as required, representing the Museum and communicating on its behalf with third parties and relevant stakeholders, and designing and providing in-house training courses as required.

Job Requirements: Applicants must be admitted as a practising solicitor or barrister in England and Wales and have relevant experience either in-house or in private practice. They should have sound knowledge and experience of relevant law and practice, including commercial, contract, intellectual property and charities law. They should be able to carry a varied and unpredictable workload, work to tight deadlines, assess commercial risks efficiently, and communicate complex legal matters in a clear, straightforward way.
