  • Role Summary:
    • Create exceptional digital images in line with client briefs, focusing on studio object photography.
    • Ensure best practices in collections security and object handling.
    • Report production issues and maintain workflow consistency.
    • Manage image processing, uploading, and database maintenance.
    • Occasionally work during non-standard hours and potentially travel for on-location shoots.
  • Role Requirements:
    • Advanced knowledge of photographic processes and technologies.
    • Professional qualification in photography.
    • Experience with professional camera systems and digital image processing.
    • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Capture One, and other standard software.
    • Prior experience in a professional photography setting.
    • Desirable: Knowledge of 3D, infrared, and ultraviolet photography techniques.

The organisation - The British Museum Founded in 1753, the British Museum’s remarkable collection spans over two million years of human history and culture. The Museum is one of the leading visitor attractions and its world-famous collection includes the Rosetta Stone, the Parthenon sculptures, Egyptian mummies, the Admonitions Scroll, and the Amaravati sculptures.

The role - Senior Photographer The postholder for this role will be working to create high quality photographs in support of client briefs with a focus on studio object photography. Key areas of responsibility include producing high quality digital images, creative images to meet set briefs, observing and employing best practice in all aspects of collections security and object handling, reporting on production issues to the Head of Photography and Imaging, processing images as per photography and imaging workflow procedures, and uploading images and entering data into the Museum image database. The role may require work outside normal hours e.g., weekends, evenings, to document Museum events and support of Museum’s public programmes. The role may also require work on location both within the UK and abroad.

Job requirements - Advanced knowledge of photographic processes and technologies, a formal professional qualification in photography, practical use of professional camera systems, practical understanding of digital capture and colour management, advanced Adobe Photoshop, Capture One and other industry standard software, and prior experience of working in a professional photographic environment are required. Knowledge of 3D processes, infrared & ultraviolet photography techniques would be desirable.
