  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and enhance ESG product methodologies.

  • Expertise in quantitative analysis, programming, statistics, econometrics, modelling, and big data.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and VBA, with Python, R, SQL, and PowerBI skills as a plus.
  • Ability to excel independently and within a collaborative team setting.

About the role: This position is responsible for the design, development, implementation and maintenance of all ESG indicators and ESG metrics within Morningstar Sustainalytics. It encompasses both technical applications and content considerations, ensuring a cohesive approach to our portfolio of product-agnostic indicators and metrics. A key responsibility of this role is to support ongoing projects to automate data collection for indicators and metrics. Collaboration is key, and close interaction with the ESG data team, research teams, IT teams, product development team, and product excellence team is required for the successful development and maintenance of indicators and metrics.

Job responsibilities: - Collaborate closely with leaders of the Research & Methodology team in the creation and enhancement of product methodologies, with a particular focus on the creation of new indicators and metrics to support product development needs. - Propose and enact revisions to indicators and metrics in order to support automation. - Oversee general improvements to indicators and metrics within our products, such as the provision of additional datapoints and meta data (tickbox criteria, citations, analyst comments, collection date, estimated vs reported information etc). - Testing of internal and external validity of indicators and metrics including change/impact analyses and portfolio performance analyses; - Interpretation and communication of testing results; - Apply data science techniques and perform statistical analyses to gain insights on indicator & metrics base, using our internal data base and IT systems structures; - Contribute to efforts to automate data collection for indicators and metrics and establish a standardized approach for storing historical scores and values.

Qualifications: - At least 5 years work experience, especially related to management information systems, ESG, sustainability research and/or finance. - Master’s degree in Econometrics, Finance, Statistics, Computer Science or related discipline or Bachelor’s degree with the equivalent, relevant experience. - A strong skillset that includes a background in quantitative analysis, programming, statistics, econometrics, modelling, and/or big data processing; - Creativity and problem solving that can be applied in real-life applications; - Strong MS Excel knowledge including VBA, with experience in Python, R or other statistical software considered an asset; - SQL and PowerBI skills considered an asset; - Ability to work independently and within a strong team environment.
