What will you be doing?
Role Purpose:We are looking for a dedicated Speechwriter to provide first class written material, including high quality speeches, messages to support AHO’s corporate and campaigning activitiesMain Tasks & ResponsibilitiesThe purpose of the Speechwriter is to manage the communication of the President & CEO through specialised knowledge and provide strategic communication support to senior management. Under the overall direction of the CEO, the Speechwriter is responsible for the following:• Draft speeches, statements, messages, press statement, briefings and written communication for the Director ensuring high level of consistency, accuracy, content and presentation for a wide variety of audiences.• Undertaking original research on a range of development topics as needed to inform the speech/lecture and soliciting inputs from across the organization as needed;• Analysing complex information, including statistics, financial information and other numerical, qualitative and quantitative data, to extract key messages for integration into speeches/lectures and other communications material as required;• Researching audience expectations, event agenda and topics, and assist in focusing the purpose of each speech or lecture to tailor messages for audience appeal and impact. • Deposit the speeches and messages on its social media platforms. What are we looking for?
Qualifications and ExperienceDegree or studying degree in Journalism, Communications, Literature, History, Sociology, Political Science, or its equivalent;At least 3 years experience of speech writing in a charity or business environment;Ability to write effectively at speed and accurately;Lateral thinking and ability to synthesize complex material;Fluency in English required; knowledge of another AHO language is an assetA good understanding of international development health issues, and the interface between NGOs, the media and the public.
What difference will you make?
The volunteer's impact on the organisation is increasing awareness of the charity through social media marketing to enable it carry out its projects in Africa and the UK. The volunteer will be able to allow the Directors time to concentrate on managing the organisation and reduce stress from the CEO by reducing his responsibilities. The organisation will be able to carry out its activities better with social media and marketing engagement with members, funders and stakeholders. This will increase the morale of the staff if they know that they have support from members to help them do their work. As for the impact on beneficiaries, this will be enormous. Our beneficiaries are people in Africa and UK with health and social care issues. We will be able to understand the issues people face specially for vulnerable populations such as pregnant women and children. We will be able to improve health and well-being for people with myriad conditions such as diabetes, cancers, kidney failure, etc. Having a social media marketer enables us to showcase our work to members and better support to people in humanitarian emergencies facing wars, diseases and starvation such as in South Sudan, Cameroon, Nigeria and Central African Republic and members will be able to donate to the charity. We will be able to improve the welfare of the people in emergency situation. We will also be able to prevent maternal deaths and infant mortality which are high in Africa due to shortage of resources.
