  • Act as the IT - Business Partner for The Ocean Cleanup, leading the optimization of the IT landscape.
  • Provide guidance and support to over 100 users, enhancing their IT self-reliance.
  • Manage IT governance, own the IT roadmap, and standardize IT processes.
  • Collaborate with DevOps and cross-functional teams, and handle IT supplier relationships.
  • Experience with IT process management frameworks like ITIL or BISL.
  • Proven ability to mature IT organizations and manage teams and processes.
  • Strong stakeholder management, negotiation skills, and the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly.
  • Team-oriented with excellent communication skills.

MISSION TO METRICS  
The mission of The Ocean Cleanup is to develop and scale technology to rid the world’s oceans. Our three-headed IT team administers our IT systems, provides support, and responds to incidents; when needed, they are supported by a flexible layer of specialists to provide a stable and predictable IT service to the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES 
In your role as IT Service Manager, you will be the IT - Business Partner for the organization and lead incremental value and optimization of our IT landscape, including processes, governance, roadmap, and stakeholders. 

Our IT team administers our Core IT infrastructure and provides support to 100+ users. This infrastructure includes Microsoft O365 and a few dozen SaaS solutions that are integrated using Azure Entra ID-based SSO. On-premise equipment is limited to a modest local network, a handful of Teams-based meeting rooms and 100+ docking stations for the Azure enrolled laptops of our crew. Our three-headed IT team administers our IT systems, provides support, and responds to incidents. When needed, they are supported by a flexible layer of specialists. provide a stable and predictable IT service to the organization.

You guide the IT organization and are in charge of capacity, resource planning, etc. Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Provide a stable, predictable, and affordable IT service to the organization
  • Organizing the IT support team and managing IT suppliers, but your main contribution will be to provide our 100+ users with guidance to get the most out of our IT systems, improving their self-resilience and reducing the IT support load. 
  • Guide the organization to use the IT tools effectively while optimizing operational IT processes
  • Organize IT governance, owning the IT roadmap, and further standardize our IT landscape
  • Collaborate with the technical leads of a few DevOps teams and cross-functional teams
  • Manage contracts and the relationship with IT suppliers; licenses/demand management
  • Organize a stable, predictable, and affordable IT service

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Experience overseeing and managing IT processes (e.g., ITIL, BISL).
  • Proven experience in maturing IT organizations 
  • Demonstrated experience of how to organize processes and teams, 
  • Ability to internal/external stakeholder and change management

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS  / MINDSET NEEDED FOR THE ROLE

  • Ability to understand how business value relates to IT costs
  • Ability to articulate technical concepts in a clear and understandable manner to non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to influence and strong negotiation skills 
  • Team player
  • Excellent Communication skills

ADDITIONAL DETAILS 

  • Starting date: As soon as possible
  • Work permit: A valid European Union work permit is highly preferred for this position (The role is based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands)
